FEWS Toothpick Holder
Toothpick Holder

Is Toothpick holder a capo di monte?
I have a porcelin lady figurine holding a basket on her head. The basket has holes in it to hold toothpicks. It has capo di monte mark on bottom. It's 7" tall.Has anyone ever seen one like this.I've looked everywhere. Is this a cheap copy?
someone told me it might be a naparian?? piece.Hope this helps you answer the question.THANKS>>
it also can be a hat pin holder. The markings are a crown with a N underneath,
I have looked all over and haven't found too much. This link shows a toothpick holder and it does have a "crown with the N below it" (it's not like yours in shape though):

The description is:
c. 1771-1820
Lovely 3 in. Vase or Toothpick Holder shaped like a Cornucopia surrounded by flowers and fruit. The glaze is a rich, creamy white. The piece is signed with the early N crown mark in cobalt blue under the glaze. Condition is very good. There are two leaves that are chipped, but otherwise there are no cracks or repairs.
There is a pitcher on the same site that is not nearly as old, but it too has the same 'crown with the N' hallmark. I am guessing your piece could be from the same maker.
OR.....
This description about how Dresden Germany Porcelain is so easliy confused with the Italian creations was found on an auction site...
Hallmark: Blue "N" Crown mark from the Porcelain Factory Sandizell in Germany. C. 1950. This mark is often confused for Ginori Capo di Monte mark. Because the Ginori reproductions were so successful, German porcelain factories quickly produced porcelain with relief decoration and applied as a mark a crowned letter "N". Other German companies used this mark for figurines and decorative porcelain. Reference "Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain; 1710 to Present".
I think you have either one or the other of these manufacturers. That is good since it is not a "knock-off"! I am curious to know which maker it really is now!
I hope his helps you!!!
