What MLB pitcher "bowled" the ball to homeplate to walk the batter - a classic baseball moment - who was that?
I think it was a pitcher for Toronto, not sure.
I think it was a Toronto pitcher - they used to show it on This Week in Baseball all of the time in the late 1980s. I think the pitcher got mad at the balls and strikes being called by the home plate umpire, so he just rolled the ball home for ball four.
Ooh, I rilly don't remember that. That sounds like a pretty good idea--as long as there was no one on base!

For Batter's Practice-Live Arm Or The Pitcher?
When it is about ballgame practice, the players have their own methods. Some of them follow the advice of their parents or coach. But every other person has his own style of coaching no matter whose advice you follow but do not forget to use baseball pitching machine or softball pitching machine to improve your skills. This is better when the batsman has to polish his own skills of batting. Some coaches also suggest practicing it by having a bowler on the other hand, as this composes the skill of two players in one time. Different coaches have different advices but what they recommend is best to improvise the player on the ground.
Practicing with a bowler is recommended by many coaches. They feel by using the batsman on one side and the bowler pitching the ball will enhance the skills of both players. The batsman faces a live bowler and the bowler is engaged in front of a live batsman, this is much different as compared to using the pitchers as they are set on a specific timing with a regular pace. When it's about a live bowler he can change the pace whenever he wants, this improves the batsman too as he indulge into his batting to focus on the change of pace. This enhances the flexibility in the skill of a batsman and he is ready to face any bowler in the next round.
Besides the advantageous of live bowling and batting, there are some drawbacks too. Coaches do not have much time to stay with a particular player all the time as they also have to focus on the other players. By this, when batsman and bowlers start practicing on their own, they skip their errors as the coach is not there all the time. This way they will be practicing in the wrong sense and instead of improving, their skill at batting is worsened. In this situation, using a pitcher is recommended.
It can be set in a specific order and pace and can easily be switched to a new pace when a batsman gets tied up. The timing of throwing can also be set, which composes the batsman to stick to his particular shots. Long hours practicing can make things better and the batsman gets uniform and composed. In this way, the coach can specify the batsman on how to strike the balls and in this situation he does not have to stick with the batsman all the time.
There are some coaches who highly recommend pitchers to their batsmen as they know there are some good pace throwers who can give hard time to them if they are not ready to face a fuel velocity. For this purpose, the ball pitchers can be set into a right mix velocity and in as much as pace you want it to. This allows the batsman to face the toughest balls which give him the confidence to face any bowler in the ground.
There is one more reason why coaches recommend it as they know that it is the right tool for achieving consistency. For the batter's consistent performance, the pitchers are really help. It keeps on grooming the batsman and recharges him to face a new contender.

Help!I got a very old set of bathroom china, washbowl, that stuff. name on bottom is royal ironstone. info?
I've got the washbowl potty bowl, pitcher, soapdish, and waste water jar. Just interested in it's age and where it originated. Any direction I can go for answers would be appreciated. Thanks all, Stan
Did a bit of searching and found that Royal Ironstone was marked on several companies' pieces. It is most often seen as the name of some fine china created in England by the Alfred Meakin company, beginning as early as 1875. However, Meakin's name is also printed on most of his pieces, from what I can tell.
It ALSO (and more significantly to your search, I think) is the name of the Johnson Bros. china company, begun in 1883. The Johnson Brothers were grandsons of the Meakin family and actually bought that company in 1908. They often made "sanitary ware" such as what you list.
There seems to be a third usage of the Royal Ironstone mark by an A.J. Wilkinson Ltd., but I couldn't find any history or marks of the company.
Hope this helps!
