How do I make a gallon of lemonade with mint?
I know it should be simple but I don't know how much water to sugar to lemon juice and I heard that there is a way to keep the sugar from settling by boiling it in the water. And how do I get mint into the drink from the mint bush on my balcony?
Hi Miki,
Here is a basic recipe for mint lemonade from Delectable Planet.
6 lemons
½ - ¾ cup Sugar or Sweetener as listed in video tutorial
1 Cup Mint Leaves (see CAUTION below)
6 Cups water
Ice
Juicer
Blender
Cut lemons in half and juice them. Add sweetener, mint and one cup of ice in blender. Blend. Pour in pitcher. Add water. Stir. Sweeten to taste. Serve over ice. Garnish with mint leaves and/or lemon wedges. Makes half gallon. Enjoy!
Problem:
water:sugar:juice ratio - solved
sugar fully dissolved - solved (the blender will mix the sugar thorougly without heating)
mint flavor in drink - solved (see CAUTION below)
gallon quantity - solved (make two separate batches of this recipe)
Note: This is the recipe from Delectable Planet whose link I have included above. This is a 1:43 video I recommend you watch. It is clear, concise and helpful. The finished product by her recipe is green! She says it is delicious. However, I would blend the mint leaves in a cup of water and add it to the blended lemonade ¼ cup at a time to taste. This way you do not end up with a disaster. I also recommend you make the lemonade in two half gallon batches. This is a better way of learning, tasting and mixing the finished product. Sometimes when you make a big batch of a recipe it does not turn out right. Two half batches is generally better.
CAUTION: Make sure you have culinary mint! Better to buy your mint from the grocery store to ensure it's edible! If you are under 18 make sure to check with your parents before using any home grown plants in your foods.
*From wikipedia: Mint is of the family - Lamiaceae. The enlarged Lamiaceae family contains 233[2] to 263[3] genera and 6900[2] to 7200[4] species.
Have A Wonderful Week, Dezzy
