Glow in the Dark Stars – better than a night light!
Night time sleep issues are many and varied, have different causes and can affect people of all ages. There are numerous products on the market all claiming to be able to cure these issues. From night lights to hypnosis, these products often cost lots of money and can have limited short term benefits.
If you have a toddler or young child who is afraid of the dark you buy them a night light. You start with one you can plug into the wall, maybe it comes on automatically when it starts to get dark. Positioning in the room is important – too close to child and it is too bright, too far away and its effects are limited. Works great unless there is a power cut in the night, or they wake up and pull it out of the wall (what curious toddler doesn't?). So, you then decide to get a night light with batteries – great they leave it on all night and it ends up costing you a fortune in batteries – even if you buy the rechargeable variety – they don't hold their charge forever. Trust me, you go in to find it and turn it off but they have hidden it somewhere under the blankets and you can't search too far – they are asleep after all and you don't want to disturb them. Next you might decide to buy a torch - great for when they are older and need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You can get some great ones for kids with different lenses so they can project dinosaurs, astronauts or Winne the Pooh on their ceilings. Same old problem with the batteries and losing the torch under the covers. Not to mention if you have an inquisitive child such as mine who loves taking things to pieces!
So, now what? You hear about those stickers that glow in the dark and dutifully put some up on the ceiling. Fantastic, no batteries and out of reach, but there's a problem – they don't stick all that well and start dropping like shooting stars during the night, they only glow for a few hours at most and then what happens when you want to move house or swap the kids rooms round? The residue left behind can be a nightmare to remove – you can't paint over them and the new owners don't want them!
So, what's an alternative – create a universe or night sky on the ceiling...Yes! But use glow in the dark paints which glow beautifully all night. How? You will need a step by step guide that will tell you exactly what products you need and how to apply them even if you have absolutely no artistic talent whatsoever or have never even picked up a paintbrush before. Voila, no more scared of the dark!
