How do I calm/train my hyper-active dog?
Ok well I have this puppy. I'd say she's around 10 months to a year, but i doubt its a year. she is an american staffordshire bulldog. and she is extremely hyper-active only when people are around tho. I can look out the window of the house and she will be fine. Just lounging around, eating, just doing what dogs do. But soon as we go outside to play with her she goes insane. Jumping, pawing at you, she will lick and occasionally put her mouth on you as to try and "teethe" on you. My parent's are talking about getting rid of her because of this and I really want to keep her. Please tell me some things that I can do to try and calm her down to where she doesn' jump all the time and go to insane when u walk outside to play with her
These are very active breeds and I wouldn't expect her puppy-ness activity level to drop anytime prior to 2-3 years of age!!
She needs obedience training, lots of play, exercise and active games to take away energy AND work her brain.
And never, ever let a puppy or a dog 'teeth' on you. Re-direct this behavior immediately, or you will be sorry you ever allowed it. Get a gentle leader for walking and training. Get many toys. Research training at home and enroll her in obedience training (not pet co or pet smart, but professional training!).
