Top 20 New Classic (since mid 1980s) list is adequate or flawed? (EW Summer Double issue)?
Did you read the list of 20 "new classics" in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY issue from June 27? Here are the page 16-22 listings:
Pulp_Fiction / Lord_of_the_Rings trilogy (2001-3) / Titanic (1997) / Blue Velvet (1985) / Toy Story / Hannah and her sisters (1986) / The Silence of the Lambs / Die Hard (1988) / Moulin Rouge (2001) / This is Spinal Tap (1984) / The Matrix / Good Fellas (1990) / Crumb / Edward Scissorhands / Boogie Nights / Jerry Maguire / Do the Right Thing (1989) / Casino Royale (2006) / The Lion King (1994). . .I am under-impressed myself by what their Top 100 listing omits and overvalues as far as cultural significance. . .What about you?

by the way GLADIATOR (2000) is #43 - -
EW rated THE_DEPARTED (2006 Best Oscar for "Picture") as #76 - - and another Best Picture (Braveheart) didn't make the Top 100
It's not a horrible list, but it could have been so much better. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but:
Where's "Raiders of the Lost Ark"? The "Return of The Jedi"? "The Shawshack Redemption"? "Schindler's List"? "Amelie"? "The Princess Bride"? "The Nightmare Before Xmas"? "Finding Nemo"? "Full Metal Jacket"? "E.T."? "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"? "Say Anything"? "Forrest Gump"? "Se7en"? "Fargo"? "Aliens"?
