1pair of socks £5, 1 pair of trousers £25, Pocket heater £2, food £5 was sent from Japan, I have to pay VAT?
and handling fee by Parcel force.
I had many parcel was sent before, but paying VAT is first time happened.
Is this new system started? Since when?
How much do I have to pay in above items?(shipping cost £45)
The Import VAT percentage rate is applied to the total value of the goods. In the case of goods brought in this is the sterling equivalent of the price paid abroad, as shown on the receipt. In the case of goods posted from outside the EU, it is the amount on the Customs Declaration, which includes the price paid for the goods, the cost of transport, postage and packing, insurance and any duty that may be payable.
The Standard Rate of VAT in the UK is currently 17.5%
Food is usually Zero rated (0%) but cannot usually be imported. Some "food" ,such as sweets, biscuits and chocolate etc, is Standard Rated!
VAT on imported goods value £32 and services £45(omitting food ) will be approx £13.48 (£77x.175 = £13.475)
It's sad but true that in the UK the end user always pays the VAT!
