Why do we serve food from the left and take away from the right, and why take the Charger away before dessert?
How does it work for serving wine? Is it also served from the left? I understand that it may be easier serving food from the left when we served ourselves from a platter presented to us, but today mostly a plate is placed already filled with food. At least for those of us who have some idea we know it is our turn to be served, but why from the left, easier for people who are right-handed?
I'm just guessing, but I also think it's so the food can be presented towards you (and the head of the table is to the left) and taken away behind you. Also, one side has to be chosen. With respect to wine, yes that too is served on the left and while pouring, the label should be facing the person being served.
