Is a renoir painting signed and dated 1976, be worth any thing?
Hello i have a renoir 1976 signed and dated, of girl with watering can. Its in pretty good condition. its a 24x18 painting. im sure its a print. could you tell me if this has any value. thank you
Renoir's career begin around the late 1800's so it would have to be a print. You might look for the edition number on the print. A number closes to the number one is more valuable. An edition number is the number of prints the artist or company had made of the original painting. If the print doesn't have a print number on it, then it might be an original print or a print the artist kept for himself. They usually kept 3-4 original prints and signed them and they didn't belong to the print edition and are more valuable. However, if the print is signed and dated together in 1976, I doubt the picture being worth anything as stated previously, Renoirs career began around the late 1800's, but if it is a print and the dated print is 1976, then it would be worth some money for sure. you might take it to a curator or person in charge of a museum or someone who sells art pictues and prints and ask them.
