How do you make model trees...?
I am making a 3-D model of the island "Ithaca" from Homer's The Odyssey. My base is a 16 by 20 inch (or about 41 by 61 cm) cardboard platform that I am going to cover with gesso paste and paint. So on the island their is a fruit orchard, a vineyard, and a poplar forest, and I have know idea how to make realistic 3-D trees. I don't want to use paper trees (like this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1380/1011045767_dcd45e8055.jpg) or store bought trees and they have to be pretty small- about and inch or two (or 2.5 - 5cm) tall per tree. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Your link didn't work so I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to avoid. I would do one of two things to make realistic trees. Start with twigs that fit the scale of your model. Buy a few different shades of flocking for the leaves. You can flesh out the branches by adding green tissue paper under the flocking. Use either a spray adhesive so that you can dip the sticky parts in a pile of flocking or else hit the specific areas that you want covered with sobo white glue.
Good Luck!
