What is the name of this short story and who wrote it?
My freshman year of college we read the following short story and for the life of me I cannot recall either its name or author.
The basic plot involves a young man who, upon looking out his window, sees a glass salesman below. He hails the salesman through his window and says he would like to buy something, asking him to come up to his room. When the salesman enters the young man scoffs at him and breaks some of his wares. The salesman stumbles out out the young man's flat, breaking much of his glass in the process. The young man waits to see the salesman exit and when he does the young man is ready and drops a vase out the window onto the man's head. As far as I can remember, that was the end. I though it might have been a story by E.T.A. Hoffmann but so far I haven't been able to track it down. Sound familiar to anyone?
