Why do so many flags have green, white, and red/orange?
I was looking through national flags, and it's strange to me how MANY of them are striped with green, white, and red/orange. I knew before that a lot of flags had that, but I didn't realize just how many until last night. Is there a reason why this combination of colors is so popular for flags?

Because varying shades of colors are generally indistinguishable, so all flags of all countries are limited to a certain color pallette, and because certain colors show up very poorly at a distance (Brown, Purple, Orange [Orange is not that common]), nearly all flags use some combination of red, blue, green, yellow, white, black.
Add to that that there are more than 200 countries in the world, and flags have to look different from any other flags they might encounter to be worth anything, and almost all countries use at least three colors.
Also you cannot use dark colors against dark colors and expect to see them, so white or yellow are almost always used as separating colors. White looks better next to green than yellow, so the combination white/green is more common than yellow/green.
As for the flags with the specific combination red/white/green, they're usually muslim countries with some affiliation to the middle east - red white and black are the middle eastern colors, dating back to their use in a great arab revolt a hundred years ago, and many countries add green, which is representative of the Islamic faith, or replace black with green entirely.

Mix lime green and white paint or just find a paler version of the lime green on your bedspread to paint your walls. You could also paint one wall white and the rest pale lime green.
