Positano - Places to visit
When You rent an apartment in Positano, during Your stay in Positano, You'll realize how beautiful and magic this town is.
From historical and archaeological point of view, in Positano you should see the Roman Villa, the defense towers built in the sixteenth century, which are eight, of wich three are internal:Torre Sponda, Torre Trasita e Torre del Fornillo, and five are external: the Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, characterized by an impressive majolica dome, visible from any vantage point in the village, and divided into three naves. Inside the cathedral is stored the icon, clearly inspired by Byzantine, of Black Madonna, painted in the thirteenth century.
Positano offers to its visitors a rich treasure in terms of landscape: landscapes everywhere, the Marina Grande beach at the foot of the village, and at its sides, the smaller beaches and port of Fornillo and Porta Arienzo. Interesting is the cave Ls Porta in which were found remains of prehistoric settlements. Inwards there is Nocelle, a small village accessible only by foot, and higher up there are the mountains S. Angelo Pizzi ai Tre Pizzi, Monte Comune, S. Maria del Castello, Conocchia, Campo de "Li Galli" and Paipo. Also worth seeing is the Ponte dei Libri (Bridge of Books), astride a picturesque valley.
The beautiful village of Positano lies at the feets of the Mounts Lattari and, besides its beauty, it is famous for his mild and dry climate. It is surrounded by green mountains: Mount Comune, Mt. S. Maria del Castello, Mt. S. Angelo a Tre Pizzi (1444 metres high), Mt. Conocchia, Mt. Campo dei Galli and Mt. Paipo; while towards the south and east the gaze arrives to the sea up to Punta Licosa and Capri. It's possible that Positano has been founded by residents of Paestum escaped to Saracens.
