What were rural colonial itinerant shoemakers called?
Roving shoemakers in Colonial times went from rural homestead to rural homestead making shoes from local hides for everyone in the family and were given room and board for their labors. What were they called? I remember reading that their service was called "skinning the cat" but can't find verification of it.
a Cobbler is a shoe maker.
Some were itinerant, but the process of making a shoe really needs a fixed location. Thus the ones who travelled selling shoes usually were just peddlers who bought cheap shoes and carted them from place to place hoping to sell them and make a profit.

Is this an appropriate cage for a hedgehog?
I want to get a two- or three- level cage for my hedgehog, like this one:

The cage that I want has a height of 14" on each level. The inside dimensions for each level for the Deluxe Colonial Homestead model are 27" wide/deep by 55" long. The top level has a little less space because of the opening for the ramp.
*Important Note: The spaces of our plastic-coated metal grids are 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches with 9 spaces across and 9 spaces down, which is considered safe for guinea pigs. We do not recommend our cages for smaller animals like rats and hamsters as they can fit through the spaces.
Based on all of this information, do you think this will be an appropriate cage for a hedgie? I'm kind of concerned about the spacing in the grids...
This would be amazing if it has a solid bottom as hedgehogs will get their legs caught and could break them with mesh bottoms. This would make any hedgie happy. Make sure your wheel is solid too prevent injuries. Good luck with your new hedgie.
