How to kindly limit a co worker to one piece of candy from jar?
We have a candy dish in our office that most of us contribute either money or bags of candy to when it needs filled. Our problem is we have a custodian who comes in every morning to tidy up the office and leaves with 3-6 pieces of candy every time. We don't mind sharing, but this person never contributes nor does she seem to think it bad manners to take so much. We started hiding the dish in the morning but she asks where it went to. What's a tactful way to deal with this?
Don't put out a candy dish. If you want to limit the candy to only those people who contribute money or bags of candy, then gather all those people together and divide up the candy as soon as it's bought. Then each person who contributed will have an equal portion. You can keep all yours to yourself, and someone else can share with the janitor.
Sorry, but I have never worked in an office where the candy jar had a limit on it. It was there for everyone to enjoy, whether they chose to contribute or not. Individuals who didn't want to share what they had bought, kept it in their own desks and stayed out of the candy jar.
