Reason Why Auckland Tops My Travel List
It is here that every travel will find a motive to come, a cause to stay and every reason to enjoy. There are many attractive places to visit in Auckland. Auckland has all of the important attractions you would long to see in a big city – museums, galleries, zoos and family enjoyment parks. Many are free or reasonably priced. You will find all you need to know about places to go with friends and family plus ideas for school holidays. Auckland is New Zealand's chief urban area with inhabitants of just over a million people. It is not, on the other hand, the capital, although it was at one time, until the capital moved to Wellington. Auckland is the centre of commerce and industry, and is perhaps the most vibrant, active and multicultural city in New Zealand. Auckland is the biggest Polynesian city in the world, and this cultural influence is reflected in many different aspects of city life.
The Sky Tower
The Sky Tower is Auckland city's most characteristic marker. It is a world reckoned tourist magnetism, as the tower welcomes about one million visitors a year. The Sky Tower is part of Sky City complex, which is a big multifaceted with two casinos, restaurants and a five-star hotel. The Tower, with a height of 328m, has four surveillance levels: the lower scrutiny level, main inspection level, and outdoor observation level and sky deck. At these observation levels, visitors can see dramatic views of the city of Auckland to about 80km. The entry to the lifts is via a subversive gallery. The lower observation level has a café, known as the Sky Lounge cafe. At the Main inspection level, there are free multilingual audio guides, live weather forecasts and touch-screen computers. The sky deck is the country's highest public presentation area. The Tower's Sky Jump is a 192m cable controlled BASE jump. At night, the Sky Tower is even more able to be seen, being lighted up with different colored lights. With these bright lights, its observation pod looks a great deal like a flying saucer
Auckland Museum
The Auckland Museum was built in 1929 to honor the end of World War I. It has an eye-catching frontage that resembles the Greek temples. The Auckland Museum has a wide variety of collections, interactive displays and performances. The museum's collection is housed on three levels. There are displays on the people of New Zealand, both the Maori and European descent, and the Pacific region. Visitors can learn about New Zealand's history and see a good collection of Maori treasures and Pacific artifacts'. The galleries have displays on social histories, ethnology and arts. The museum has interactive tricks for kids to create more enthusiasm for them. The museum has a natural history gallery, with about 1.5 million specimens. These specimens are freeze-dried, pickled, stuffed and skewered. The War Memorial, positioned at the top floor, serves as a museum with displays on New Zealand's war history, and a place of memorial. From the exhibits, guests can learn how the historical war events have forged the country's identity. The museum also holds Maoris' artistic performances.
Art Gallery
The Auckland Art Gallery is New Zealand's main art organization with a collection of about 12,500 exhibits. It showcases both global and nationwide art pieces. It also holds exhibitions on a regular basis. The Auckland Art Gallery occupies two neighboring buildings. The Main Gallery has displays on European anthology as well as New Zealand art. The New Zealand's collected works includes works from many of the country's most famous artists. The New Gallery housed modern art pieces and holds exhibitions.
Viaduct Harbor
The Auckland Viaduct Harbor, built approximately late '90s, has a mixture of shopping plazas, residential apartments, cafes and restaurants. All these were built overlooking the waters which are overflowing with bobbing boats. The Maritime Museum is situated in the Auckland Harbor. The Maritime Trail is a paved walkway around the rim of the harbor's basin. The length of this path, there are chronological plaques and good-looking sculptures, importance key aspects of Auckland's sea adventures. Guests can take pleasure in an enjoyable stroll here. During summer, there are outdoor performances such as singing, playing or acting. Outdoor cinema shows are held here as well.
Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World
It is a wonderland of snow, ice and astonishing underwater tourist attractions. Travel through the Antarctic Encounter where you'll find out, up close colonies of penguins playing in real ice and snow, swimming and dipping beneath the ice cap. Then follow on deep beneath the ocean in a glass tunnel and come face to face with sharks and other astounding creatures of the sea. For the brave-hearted, understanding the interactive Stingray Bay by swimming with stingrays; or get in the shark tank and swim with real-life sharks
Beaches in Auckland
The city's landscape is dominated by volcanic hills, the twin harbors', bays, beaches and islands. Its nickname 'the city of sails' is very apt. Auckland has more boats per capita than anyplace else in the world. Auckland is scattered with volcanic hills, many of which were once the site of Maori pas, or fortified villages, and which currently afford great views of the city.
Auckland lies between the Waitemata and Manukau harbors, and its geography is such that glistening waters seem to beckon from every point. It is a water lover's paradise, with some of the best beaches, swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, and windsurfing and water sports in the country. The Arataki Visitors Centre provides maps, advice and education on the walks, natural and historic attractions in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. The park takes in Karekare and Piha, but the centre can also help people heading for Bethells-Te Henga or Muriwai. The region's parks are administered by the Auckland Regional Council. There's info about vineyards, adventure tours, arts and crafts and other attractions on the way to the beach at Enterprise Waitakere. Near Piha, Rose Hellaby House is a traditional and collectables shop open weekends and public holidays. You can find it on Scenic Drive, 1km beyond the Piha turnoff. There are spectacular views back across the Waitakeres to the Manukau and Waitemata Harbors.
