I need a translucent blue cone 6 oxidation glaze. or even a pale green would do, to go over carved porcelain?
I guess I need a celedon? Something to sit in the relief carving. I know that there are some great ones in reduction, but I don't have access to that. Would stains work? Or are they generally opaque when mixed into the clear? Any good recipes or suggestions before I just start experimenting?

There are many possibilities for glazes you can use at cone 6 oxidation. I would start with a clear glaze that fits the porcelain you are using (that doesn't craze) and then experiment with adding different colorants. The colorants can be oxides, such as cobalt carbonate or oxide for blue, etc. or stains, such as Mason Stains. The concentration of the colorant is the key. See Greg Daly's book, Glazes and Glazing Techniques, for suggestions.
What makes a glaze opaque is the addition of an opacifier, such as Zircopax, tin or zinc oxides, etc., to a clear base glaze.
There are many clear base glazes to choose from if you aren't using one already. One I've used a lot, and added different colorants for various colors is: 20 grams of each of the following chemicals -- Custer Feldspar, EPK, Flint (Silica), Frit 3134 and Wollastonite. This makes a 100 gram batch for testing on tiles. Test the clear glaze for fit before you add colorants. Follow Daly's suggestions for easy testing of different colorants.
There are also software programs, such as HyperGlaze, that can help you in formulating good glazes. Good luck.
