What unit is antique aneroid barometer measuring?
I got an antique aneroid barometer from my grandparents' house. It's a Swift brand (although the Vega logo is also on the barometer face) and it was made in Germany. Its numbers range from 27.20 to 31.80, but it doesn't say what exactly those numbers correspond to. What unit is it measuring?

I think it is calibrated in "inches of mercury" that in turn is a unit of pressure
the weight of a column of Hg which is L inches tall and has an area of one sq inch
by experiment the pressure of a column of air from the earth to the "edge of space" weights the same and has the same pressure
Hg is about 13 times more dense than water and water is about 1000 times more dense than air
Air however gets less dense with altititude so the upper air has less weight than the lower air
by co incidence a column of water is about 32 feet = air pressure so it might be in feet of water
At that time most open tube barometers used Hg so I am almost certain it is inches of Hg
Today the height is measure in meters or millimeters
look up "bar and Milibar"
the daily weather changes the air pressure which is what the barometer was trying to measure
low pressure usually meant a storm
